Mammoth Cave NP Redux

Mammoth Cave NP Redux

If you’ve been following my travels from the beginning, you may remember that Mammoth Cave National Park was the first place I visited when I started driving last year, when I was still figuring out how to live the life of a homeless tourist.  That initial visit was nice, but somewhat underwhelming, primarily because the guided tours were all booked out by the time I arrived at 9am, and I could only wander around in the most open part of…

The US Space and Rocket Center

The US Space and Rocket Center

While I was in Huntsville, Alabama for the SCCA RallyCross, I decided to visit the US Space and Rocket Center.  Opened in 1970, just after the second manned mission to the moon, this is sometimes called Earth’s largest space museum. SCCA RallyCross

SCCA RallyCross

I’ve been interested in learning more about RallyCross, a form of single stage loose-surface rally racing with a course delineated mostly by traffic cones.  It’s very accessible, and a great practice arena for stage rallies.  The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) has a good description here:  https://www.scca.com/pages/what-is-rallycross. The National Corvette Museum and Assembly Plant Tour

The National Corvette Museum and the  GM Corvette Assembly Plant are located in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  Whether or not you’re a big Corvette fan, you can’t deny that they’re justifiably well-loved and iconic cars, and they have a great following in the US.  I’ve driven by a couple of times now, and finally decided to stop for a visit.  The timing was fortunate too, as the plant will be closed to tours starting in June, and only reopening in late…

Run for the Roses!… But not in High Heels

Run for the Roses!… But not in High Heels

I received an invitation to attend the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs racecourse, so of course I said yes!  I’ve only ever been to one other horse race, and although I’m not really into the racing, I thought the experience would be interesting.  In order to blend in with the crowd, I picked up a dress and shoes and a fancy hat.. Unfortunately, the day dawned rather cold and rainy, but we forged ahead anyway.  In the picture below, you’ll…
