St Louis City Garden

St Louis City Garden

When I think of a tourist destination, St Louis, Missouri is not what immediately comes to my mind, but I found it to be a surprisingly enjoyable city to visit.  It had a sense of history about it, and yet felt modern.  It was busy, but not to hard to get around in, and was quite walkable.  I visited St Louis for several reasons:  to see the Gateway Arch, to go to a Major League baseball game, and incidentally to go to the Busch Brewery and see the Budweiser Clydesdales.  But the general vibe of the place was so nice that I found myself thinking that this would be a nice place to live!

The buildings downtown were older, but well maintained, and with lovely classic details, like this Bell Telephone building.

And the old International Fur Exchange, now the Drury Plaza Hotel.

But on my way to the baseball game, I came across the St Louis City Garden, which was a great place to waste some extra time on a sunny day.

The garden was full of sculptures and this water fountain park, and was intended to be very hands-on.

The first statue I came across was this Handless Man.  That’s not the actual title, I didn’t note the real title, but each was labeled.  I generally came up with my own names, however, based on what they reminded me of at the time.  Just for fun, I’ll tell you the actual names of the art work below, and also my names.

“Zenit”  [Equine Backache]

“Untitled”  [Marshmallow Rabbit]

“Door of Return” [Coffee Bean on a Stick]

“Big White Glove, Big Four Wheels”  [Hallelujah Pinocchio]

I didn’t get the title of this, so I’ll call it [Portals].

“Tai-chi Single Whip”  [I Can Almost Reach It]

“La Riviere”  [Tantrum]

“Bird”  [Buckled Bird]

“Big Suit”  [You’re Wearing What?]

“Eros Bendato”  [Empty Headed]

[On the Inside Looking Out]

“Kindly Geppetto”  [Beaten Senseless]

But enough of this fun and games, there are other things to see and do in St Louis!  Just look at this view!
