Standing on a Corner…

Standing on a Corner…

I hadn’t intended to go further west than Petrified Forest National Park, but when I saw that the next town over, just half an hour away, was Winslow, Arizona… well, I just had to go.  For the fun of it.  (If anyone doesn’t know the Eagles song ‘Take it Easy’ then shame on you, you should!  Go look it up!)

I don’t actually know why this corner is THE corner, but it’s on Route 66, so maybe that’s half the reason.

The name of the town is painted on the wall, with a reflection of a girl in a flatbed Ford pained on the windows below.  And out on the street is the flatbed Ford itself.

There are gift shops on two of the other corners, and I went to the “Sipp Shoppe” soda fountain on the fourth corner.  I got a rootbeer float, in keeping with the retro feel of the place.  (I was very tempted to call the man making my float the “soda jerk.”)  That’s kind of the fun of every place I’ve been on Route 66… it’s like you’ve stepped back in time.

But, although Winslow seemed like a nice enough town in it’s own right… there really wasn’t much else there.  Anyway, I’ve been there.

I was standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.
