Talladega Night

Talladega Night

I’ll have to start off this post by saying that I’m not a follower of NASCAR, and don’t know much about it.  I know some of the big name drivers, I could name a few of the famous tracks, and I’ve watched “Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby,” but that’s pretty much the extent of my knowledge.  But Talladega was a convenient place to stop for the night on my journey, I grew up playing around and in cars, and hey… it’s Talladega..

Next to the track was the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum, so I went in the for the tour.  That sounds exciting, but I’m going to limit your expectations right now by saying that by “Motorsports” they mean NASCAR.  And by “International”… well, someone might have been from Canada, I’m not sure…

The pictures that follow are just of cars that I found personally interesting, or that seemed significant in some way, or maybe I recognized the name of the driver.  I really can’t add much to the information given by the museum, so I’ve just included their descriptions under the picture of each car.

The sign says “sustained no serious injuries.”

I have to admit that I didn’t see any particular pattern in the way the cars were presented.  Maybe I missed something.

There were several nice trophy rooms.

And a small motorcycle section that didn’t seem to have a lot to do with racing.

Naturally there was a bit of a shrine to Dale Earnhardt.

And some displays of equipment used in the early days of NASCAR.

And of course, you knew they had to have it… the Wonder Bread Monte Carlo driven by Ricky Bobby….

This completes your NASCAR experience.  I hope you’ve enjoyed the show.  Onward and southward in my own special Baby Blue!
