Yellowstone National Park (Alternatively: How Faithful is Old Faithful?)

Yellowstone National Park (Alternatively: How Faithful is Old Faithful?)

I had made the conscious decision to spend only one day seeing the sites of Yellowstone, mainly because of the number of people, but I clearly could have spent much more time there.  All camp sites were booked out, so I wasn’t going to be able to stay in the park overnight either, although if I had booked ahead, I think I would have liked spending a week there and getting to some of the more remote locations.   I left Cody…

The Cody ‘Nite’ Rodeo

The Cody ‘Nite’ Rodeo

Another big bucket list kind of place that I wanted to visit on this trip was Yellowstone National Park, in western Wyoming.  It was getting late in the day on my drive there when I approached Cody, WY, so I decided to spend the night there and start into Yellowstone in the morning.  But what do you do in the evening when you’re in Cody?  That’s Cody, as in Buffalo Bill Cody, and this is apparently where he had his wild…

Bighorn Canyon (Alternatively: All the Pretty Horses)

Bighorn Canyon (Alternatively: All the Pretty Horses)

Little Bighorn Battlefield

I visited the battlefield of Little Bighorn because I’ve heard of “Custer’s last stand” all my life, but only vaguely remembered the details from my school history classes.  I had generally planned to head west again from Devil’s Tower, but Little Bighorn was only about two hours out of my way, and two more back, and a four hour detour has really become no big deal for me on this trip! Going to the visitor’s center there, I was just…

Devil’s Tower, Wyoming

Devil’s Tower, Wyoming

I’ve made a discovery!  It is quite possible to find excellent coffee in the US, you just have to search for “espresso bars” instead of cafes!  Using this discovery I quickly found Alternative Fuel Coffee House in Rapid City, South Dakota, and spent a peaceful morning drinking great lattes and getting caught up on my writing.  Ahhh…. When my phone and computer batteries gave out, it was time to move on, and I drove westward again into Wyoming.  My goal…
